In this annual contest Canadians write in and nominate their favorite locations. It could be a street, a neighbourhood, a public space… anywhere Canadians love to spend time.

Locke Street – HAMILTON, ON
This is a great place because of the atmosphere that it has to offer. It enhances Hamilton as a city, and supports the local economy. It has the feeling of Portobello Market in London, England but in our own backyard. The Cheese shop is amazing and the Starbucks hits the spot. It is an up-and-coming area and even has its own festival crowding the streets each September (www.lockestreetfestival.com).
James Street North – HAMILTON, ONJames Street North, Hamilton is quickly becoming THE place to be in Hamilton, Ontario. Its sidewalks are comfortable to meander down, there are restaurants, bars, pubs, cafes, art galleries, and shops for all sorts of shoppers.
Hess Village – HAMILTON, ON
Hess Village’s cobbled streets are lined by some of Hamilton’s historic buildings adding a unique upmarket flair to the village. It starts off at the base of the Niagara Escarpment and continues onwards to the waterfront where it ends right in front of the Canadian National Railway Yard. It is a hotspot for nightlife as well with nightclubs and bars, and features a summertime Jazz Festival.
Ottawa Street – HAMILTON, ON
In a world slowly being taken over by big box stores, Ottawa Street has gained new life over the past few years, and has once again become a great place to shop. Known as the textile district for many years, Ottawa Street is quickly expanding its offering of shops to everything from antique stores, restaurants, and bakeries, to record shops, art galleries, and a very busy farmers’ market. Ottawa Street is also home to the first ever Tim Hortons. It’s a street rich with history, and is a cherished gem in our evolving east end community. As Hamilton builds its new stadium district a city block away with the recently approved renovation to Ivor Wynne Stadium as part of the Toronto 2015 Pan Am Games, Ottawa Street will only continue to grow and flourish. After shopping on Ottawa Street, walk over to the Children’s Museum or a stroll through Gage Park. Ottawa Street isn’t alone in the experience it offers with the recent arts revival on James Street North or the very trendy Lock Street, but its history in our community makes it one of a kind.
The Devil’s Punchbowl – HAMILTON, ON
The Devil’s Punchbowl is one of the many waterfalls in Hamilton, Ontario.It is a truly amazing place to go for a hike, or just to enjoy the view. What is so amazing about the Devil’s Punchbowl is that during the summer, the waterfall dries up — allowing you to hike to the bottom to explore. You may also choose to look out on a platform that allows for fantastic views of Hamilton, and the Stoney Creek Escarpment. But do not stop there! There are also hiking trails that descend into the gorge — with lots of creeks/streams, plants, animals, and good times.
