{"id":786,"date":"2012-10-03T12:51:06","date_gmt":"2012-10-03T16:51:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/steveroblin.com\/?p=786"},"modified":"2023-11-28T16:23:11","modified_gmt":"2023-11-28T21:23:11","slug":"hamilton-lrt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/steveroblin.com\/hamilton-lrt\/","title":{"rendered":"Hamilton LRT &#8211; What does todays TTC announcement mean for us?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/steveroblin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/Hamilton-Logo.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-116\" title=\"Hamilton-Logo\" src=\"https:\/\/steveroblin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/Hamilton-Logo-300x245.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"245\" \/><\/a>With the announcement today that the TTC and Metrolinx will jointly run the 3 new LRT lines in Toronto we in Hamilton are left to wonder: What does it mean for us?<br \/>\nWith the announcement 2 weeks ago by TTC chair Karen Stintz that the TTC would not pay to opererate private lines it seemed that the new lines would be owned and operated completely by the private sector. \u00a0The announcement today lead TTC CEO Andy Byford to say the new agreement would ensure a \u201cseamless\u201d public transit system for riders, calling it a \u201chuge day\u201d for the TTC.<br \/>\nWhy isn&#8217;t Hamilton pushing for a similar type of deal? \u00a0Toronto is getting 8.4 Billion in capital costs PLUS an operating subsidy. \u00a0 Sure sounds like a great deal to me!<br \/>\nPersonally I am on board with a public-private partnership to bring LRT to Hamilton. \u00a0We need it, and we need it badly.<br \/>\nOntario Infrastructure and Transportation Minister Bob Chiarelli supports this type of\u00a0partnership to build, design, finance, maintain and operate the LRTs, saying its Infrastructure Ontario agency had an \u201calmost flawless\u201d record of bringing projects in on time and on budget.<br \/>\nLets hope the decision today sparks a fire that is needed to help move our city forward!<br \/>\nFor more information see:<br \/>\nhttp:\/\/raisethehammer.org\/article\/1675\/hamilton_deserves_same_lrt_deal_as_toronto<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>With the announcement today that the TTC and Metrolinx will jointly run the 3 new LRT lines in Toronto we in Hamilton are left to wonder: What does it mean for us?
